About Us

American Fence Company (AFC) started almost 50 years ago as a local fence contractor. With a pick-up truck, wheelbarrow and a pair of posthole diggers; two men unknowingly set out to start what would later be called American Fence Company. With difficulty in obtaining materials here in the Midwest, AFC begin negotiating to purchase truckload quantities to maintain a consistent source of inventory. It was this bold step, in addition to, honoring customer relationships and providing unmatched services that established American Fence Company as a single source for fencing materials. Still locally owned, AFC has grown into the Midwest largest fence supplier.

American Fence Co. has been installing residential, commercial, and government fencing for almost 50 years and in seven Midwest states. We have the expertise and on the on-hands knowledge to provide our customers with the best product for their project. We are being lead into the twenty first century under the leadership of our original founder who stills owns and operates the business.

With seven operations providing materials throughout thirteen states, AFC has a large wholesale division, supplying fence contractors, lumber yards, home improvement centers, and retail customers with a full inventory of materials. We always have on-hand a complete selection of wood, vinyl, ornamental and chain link.

AFC specification experts work directly with architects, engineers and contractors, providing design, specification and installation assistance. You can find our unique CAD designs from the Yellowstone National Forest to your neighbors’ backyard.

AFC is the Master Distributor for Chamberlain and Linear gate operators and access controls. With an inventory of operators, accessories and parts, we can provide expert installation and years of service.

We have installed a majority of the correctional and high security fencing in the central Midwest, including recent projects at almost every Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa correctional institution, nuclear power plants, airports, air force bases, etc. We can help you make your project secure.

COMMERCIAL FENCING

American Fence Company can provide you with fencing from three feet on up. With the addition of three strands of barbwire or razor wire, you can maximize the security of your fence. Razor wire should only be installed out of reach and in areas where permitted. To increase the rigidity of your fence, a bottom tension wire or rail may be added. Rails can also be added in intermediate locations as desired. Vinyl or plastic slatting can be installed in the fence to create a screen, adding privacy. Commercial chain link fence is an excellent choice for transgressing changing grades. Practically maintenance free, it will provide you with a lifetime of security.

Chain link mesh is available in gauges from six (largest) to eleven (smallest) with nine gauge being the most popular. Diamond sizes vary from 3/8 inch to the more commonly used two inch. The smaller diamonds provid added strength and are more difficult to climb. Chain link mesh should always have a hot-dipped after weaving galvanized coating. The galvanizing can be enhanced with a colored vinyl coating for aesthetics.

There are a wide range of options for your framework. However, your best choice is a Type II cold rolled product with a 50,000 psi tensile strength. All your rails and braces should be 1 5/8 inch outside diameter (O.D.). For fences over 6 foot tall, a 2 1/ 2 inch O.D. line post is recommended. For fence 6 foot and under, a 2 inch O.D. line is adequate. Your end and corner post should not be less than 3 inch O.D. and your gate post will depend on the size of the gate. All your tubing should be fully galvanized inside and out.

American Fence Company has a professionally staffed fabrication facility. We can build just about any gate you can “dream-up”.

SWING GATES: Most economical and widely used, swing gates are available in single and double leafs. When selecting a swing gate take into consideration the area and level grade necessary to swing the gate open. Swing gates are a good choice for level surfaces, but be careful where you have slopes, leaving gaps under the gate. Most swing gates can be motorized with access controls.

ROLLING GATES: By choosing a rolling gate, you are getting the most economical gate using the least amount of storage space. The sliding travel utilizes rear rollers on tracks and a ground wheel assembly at the nose, allowing for travel across slopes and moderate surface conditions. Due to surface conditions that may impede the wheel assembly from travelling across the opening, most rolling gates can not be motorized.

CANTILEVER GATES: Completely suspended over your drive, a cantilever gate is your best choice for ease of opening and maximum security. Cantilever gates slide along the fence line, using very little storage space. Utilizing two large horizontal rails, the gate slides between rollers attached to the gate posts, making motorization and access control easy.

RECREATIONAL: Backstops, dugouts, batting cages, etc. can be engineered according to your own design. With countless sizes and types, important wind load, snow load and other factors should be taken into consideration. If you are unsure of the standard sizes and types, contact one of our specification experts. With your input, we will design your fence and provide you with a detailed drawing for your use. No charge.

FENCING SPECIFICATIONS: Assuring that every aspect of your fence is according to the highest standards, it is important to have a detailed list of specifications. Your list should be congruent with the latest ASTM, CLFMI & ASHTO standards. Now, you have such a list.

A “Master Distributor” for Stanley access controls, we are the professionals to provide your automated and electrical security needs. Having installed over 1,000 gate operators and access control devices in the last three years alone, we can assist you in designing your access control system.

GATE OPERATORS: Designed for use with a cantilever, overhead track, or swing gate, automatic operators are built with your gate in mind. Based on the size of your gate and the frequency of use, we can determine the right operator for you, selecting from a variety of horsepower and voltage. Lead by a solid state microprocessor, our operators utilize an adjustable monitor to sense obstructions with reversal time delay. An audio warning is a standard feature for safety. We recommend additional safety accessories.

CONTROL STATION: Heavy duty control stations with recessed push buttons and key locks are available. These stations will allow for controlling access, in addition to, opening, closing and stopping the gate.

CARD READERS: For controlled access by means of a coded magnetic card, readers are an excellent choice for apartment complexes and plant facilities. By allowing entrance to only authorized card holders, you can control access and maintain a record of arrival and departure times.

DIGITAL KEYPADS: Allow access to only those who know the code using the telephone-like button panel. With a possibility of 10,000 different codes, you can easily control access to any one party by eliminating their code, making this an excellent option for mini-storage facilities.

INTERCOM / TELEPHONE ENTRY: Offering the convenience and security of point-to-point communication, an intercom or telephone entry can be added to other access control devices or stand on it's own with the addition of an outdoor keyswitch.

TRANSMITTER & RECEIVERS: Just like your garage door opener, your automatic gate operator can be opened and closed from the convenience of your automobile. With a receiver wired to the operator and a battery operated transmitter kept in your possession, you will never have to roll down your window or open your door.

COMPUTER SYSTEM: In connection with your card reader, keypad and other devices; a computerized access control system can be added to provide more sophisticated and itemized control over each entry and exit. Recording and controlling access of each tenant, in conjunction with delinquent accounts, resident vacations, etc. provides the ultimate in access control.

VEHICLE DETECTOR: The detector magnetically reads the presence of an approaching vehicle, electronically signaling the operator to open or hold open the gate. Most reliable, this device is excellent for vehicle detection; however not detecting pedestrians, it should be used in cooperation with other safety devices.

PHOTOCELL: Maintaining a solid beam across the opening, when broken the photocell alerts the operator to open or hold open the gate. This device is effective for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic; however, with its exposed sensitivity, it should not be used for free-exit.
